Parish Update -- October 29, 2020
Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph:
Here are a few things to be aware of:
1. Trunk or Treat -- Tonight CCM and our Parish Youth will be putting on our annual Trunk or Treat at 6:30. It will be very different than it has been in the past. We are trying to be as safe as possible. Cars will be distanced and we ask that everyone be attentive to Covid and wear a mask and remain socially distant.
2. Praying for the dead in November -- Sunday, November 1 is All Saints Day and Monday, November 2 is All Souls Day. We'll have Mass at 12:05 PM on Monday. The month of November is traditionally a time when we, as Catholics, visit cemeteries, as well as pray for the souls of the faithful departed and all of the dead, especially those who have no one to pray for them. We will have our Book of the Dead in the Church. Please feel free to add your loved ones to the book. They will be remembered in the prayers of the faithful at Mass throughout the month of November.
3.
OSV online giving -- This past week you may have received an email from OSV online giving. With all of the potential scams out there, many of you asked if it it was legitimate. It is. They have made a substantial upgrade to their user interface. You will see a significant difference when you go to
https://www.osvhub.com/stjosephstarkville/funds. You may give to CCM or to the Food Pantry from here, but the Weekly Fund is where you can give your regular parish giving. Feel free to offer a one-time gift or a recurring one. Every bit helps. Thank you all for your generosity.
4. Master Plan -- Thank you to all of you who participated in offering your recommendations to Cory Gallo last Sunday after Mass. We're hoping to take all of the suggestions very seriously. This has helped create a lot of healthy discussion. On Tuesday night, the Master Planning Committee met with Cory who offered a few initial drawings. In the next few weeks, we are hoping to open those drawings up to the parish for recommendations as well for further input. Stay tuned.
5. Dr. Clyde Taylor -- Some of you may remember Dr. Taylor who was a parishioner here at St. Joseph and has been in Natchez for the last six years or so. Dr. Taylor died on October 24, 2020. Sebrell Funeral Home in Natchez is handling the arrangements. Please pray for the repose of his soul and for the comfort of the family, particularly his daughter Terry Townsend and his son Eddie Taylor who has cared for him the last few years. Eternal Rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, rest in peace.
Peace,
Fr. Jason
