Sorry about the multiple emails...if I'd been thinking I would have sent this out with the Mass.
Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” (From John 20:19-23)
Peace...what a novel concept. Just as Jesus was sent into the world to reconcile us to the Father, we too are sent to bring peace and reconciliation to a world that has unfortunately gone off the rails. I can’t speak with any authority on race relations, the Constitution’s definition of personal liberties, racial oppression, what it’s like to be a police officer, or with the same expertise of the world’s finest researchers in virology, or really any of the things which has caused our nation to be in upheaval. But, my sisters and brothers in Christ, I can speak with the love of Jesus and you can too! Peace starts with us and in our own hearts. Odds are, you aren’t going to stop the riots or fix police brutality or racism, but you can stop spreading divisive memes on Facebook, spouting off at the mouth, and you can be nice to everyone you meet. You can start by loving your household and your family. You can start by forgiving those who you no longer consider friends. You can be kind to those who disagree with you on matters of public health policy. You can just take a step back from arguing and let someone else get the last word in. You can just let things go for a change and move on. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God! Be a peacemaker, my sisters and brothers in Christ, and be a child of God! Amen!
