Principal's Post
Geroge Floyd.
I have been asking myself what do I say about the murder of Mr. Floyd. I mean, there is a lot to say and to feel but as a member of the most privileged "class"- white, heterosexual, male- what can I say/do that is authentic and sincere to avoid the act of silence.
My action: I am going to hold myself to a higher standard ensuring that our students, our community are, and continue to be, Peace Builders. Every single day we say the following pledge during the morning announcements:
I am a PeaceBuilder. I pledge. . . To praise people, to give up put-downs, to seek wise people, to notice and speak up about hurts I have caused, to right wrongs, and to help others. I will build peace at home, at school, and in my community each day.
I commit myself to using this language daily and in every encounter with our students. This is the simple BUT critical foundation that our students need so that they can love, care for, and accept all those around them. I want our students to see our differences, acknowledge them, and understand them so we can better encounter and participate in meaningful friendships and relationships.
I commit OLP to be a community that is an agent of change for our young people so that they can effectively thwart racism, injustices, and systemic inequalities.
Finally, if you need anything from OLP please do not hesitate to reach out. As I shared in an email last week, my personal cell number is 952-239-1564 and you can call or text with a prayer request or to notify me that you have relocated due to unrest and everything in between.
