Good afternoon to all of my parish families and friends,
Today we celebrate Mary under the title as "Mother of the Church." How fitting that the Mother of God, who stood at the foot of the Cross as Jesus was dying should be called our mother as well. The Church uses today's scripture passage to signify this: "When Jesus saw His mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold your son...then he said to the disciple , "Behold your mother." (Jn 19: 26-27)
Mary is the model of faith for all of us during these trying times. From the very beginning, she puts all of her trust in God that she will give birth to the Savior of the world, who will free mankind from his sins. Wow! Mary was also there for Jesus at some very important times in His ministry such as the the first miracle at the Wedding of Cana, and at the foot of the Cross as mentioned above.
We need to have that complete trust that Mary lived out in her life. Let us ask her to go to her Son in heaven and give us the peace that we need so much in our hearts and in the world. Pray for a respect for all life, pray for racial equality, pray for a cure to end this virus, and pray for a deeper faith in the love of God. Mary truly is the Mother of the Church and we are the body of the Church, which makes Mary our Mother as well.
Totus Tuus...."all yours Mother of God"....... Fr. Pat
