Dear Parishioners,
My doctor recommended canceling my COVID-19 test. So, I did. After all I've read about the coronavirus, I still have plenty to learn. Here are some of the things I now know based on the questions for signing up for a test at Rite Aid.
1) I have no symptoms.
2) My temperature was 97.3 degrees Fahrenheit.
3) I have no underlying medical conditions.
4) I'm under 65.
5) I have not been within six feet of someone who tested positive for a duration of 15 minutes.
My doctor thinks it doubtful I have COVID-19. The person I'm concerned about is getting tested today. I was only within six feet of him for seconds at a time. He was always wearing a mask at those times.
So, we'll go back to mostly normal tomorrow with Mass outside. I'll distribute Holy Communion. Feel free not to receive. The church will remain closed today since it would be too hard to open now.
I'm inclined to continue to err on the side of caution until I'll get expert advice about a concern. While my risk for serious infection is low, I'm concerned about our many parishioners in high risk categories. Let's continue to keep you safe as we continue to navigate this pandemic. May the Holy Spirit enlighten us and give us patience.
Oh, one more thing. We have cones blocking certain parking spaces so that parishioners can keep their windows open during Mass. So far, we've had about two people run over cones. One reported not seeing the cones. I suggested that she see her doctor. The many cones are easy to spot. Please be careful in the parking lot. If you have difficulty seeing, please stop driving. Please pray for the woman who can't see cones.
God love you,
Fr. Jim
