Call to Action
Our Illinois bishops are asking for your help in stopping state legislation that would use your taxpayer money to pay for elective abortions for Medicaid recipients and state employees.
House Bill 40 is the latest version of legislation calling for public funding of abortion. It also allows tax money to pay for state grants that go to organizations that refer to, counsel for and perform abortions. Current law prohibits all of these actions.
We are hearing that the Illinois House will call this bill for a vote tomorrow (Thursday, Feb. 16) morning.
Cardinal Cupich of Chicago and our five other diocesan bishops in the state have each written a letter to parishioners, asking them to contact their state representative and urge him/her to vote "No" on HB 40. You can read the letters here.
Click here to call or email your state representative to vote "No" on HB 40. (Call your state represenative at his/her Springfield office -- the office with the 217 area code.)
Thank you for your support.
