Please Pray For:
- Carlos Palasciano, who died on Saturday. Funeral services are pending
Retirement
As I announced at masses this past weekend, I asked the bishop to move my retirement date back to the beginning of July. As you know several months ago he asked me to stay on an extra six months and I agreed to do that. I had misgivings at the time, but felt that I should see the parish through this time of pandemic to the extent that I can. However, my misgivings about staying were well founded. One of the advantages of priestly formation is that we learn how to discern what the Spirit is telling us. Usually we spend most of our effort in that regard helping our parishioners to discern; however, there are times in which it is necessary to take a closer look at ourselves and what God might be telling us. As the weeks passed, after agreeing to stay longer, it seemed that the Spirit was getting louder and louder with this message, “You are done there! Get out of the way of the next pastor who needs to be there! And open yourself to what is in store for you in a new phase in your life!”
In the past, when I have come to times of transition and change, I have found that if I resist things just get harder but when I listen and open myself to that transition and change, things move on to more than I could have imagined. As I have mentioned before, Emmaus was not my first choice after completing my time as founding pastor at St. John Vianney in Round Rock. However, I trusted Bishop Aymond who told me he really believed that I was the one who needed to come here and the result has been 13½ rewarding years here with you. Those are years for which I am very grateful.
I will be moving on July 6 to the priest retirement center in Georgetown. The accommodations there are very nice. I will have a new two bedroom duplex that I will need to make my own. On that day your new pastor, Fr. David Leibham, will arrive. He is currently the pastor at Santa Cruz in Buda. I know you will all welcome him as you did me so many years ago.

Yours in Christ,
Fr. Samuel Hose
