WBC Supporters,
I pray this email finds all of you and your families well and safe in these challenging times in our world.
I want to give all of you an update on how things are going for our friends at the WBC. The leadership team in Quito is adapting to these COVID times and doing amazing things to support our Family of Families. Here is some information on a recent TV news clip:
The good news of the mission at the Working Boys' Center - A Family of Families was spread far and wide across Ecuador this week as
TeleAmazonas 4 transmitted live from the WBC! For those of you that don't speak Spanish, this interview discussed the face masks and bio-security suits being made at the WBC Sewing Center, featuring water-resistant, breathable fabrics. The masks can be imprinted with the logo of the organizations or institutions that order them. They also promoted the Center's disinfecting tray for shoes made by the Metal Mechanics Workshop as well as a portable desk/bookcase to help students doing schoolwork at home created by Carpentry. The reinvestment of the profits from these WBC-produced items was featured as well. The profits are utilized to help defray the costs of distributing provision kits filled with fresh and non-perishable food items to feed a family of five people for a two-week period. Contact information was given for those who wish to purchase these items and the orders have increased two-fold! You, too, can order customized masks by emailing
Tom Whalen, C4WF Board Member.
You may have seen these WBC and St. Gabriel branded face masks being worn around St. Gabriels. These were purchased by one of our generous parishioners. Come and pick one up in the Bishop Kelly Center lobby or the Church Narthex as they are going fast! Maybe we'll have to place a second order.
It was a year ago that many of us were returning from our trip to Ecuador to visit the WBC. What a wonderful trip it was. And so much has changed since then. What hasn't changed are the wonderful people doing God's work for those in need.
Please continue to pray for our Family of Families and consider any monetary donation that you can afford by donating here or via Faith Direct.
I know this is a long update, but two more quick items:
- We are still tentatively planning our 2nd Annual Big Band Dance benefit on Oct. 24th. Of course this is tentative based on health and safety concerns for all parties.
- We are tentatively planning another trip to the WBC in early June 2021. This is also contingent on how things look next year. Please email me if you are interested in this trip. We hope to base our trip agenda on feedback from those attending.
God willing, both of these events will take place and will be bigger and better than ever before!
God bless you all and stay safe and healthy!
Regards
Mark
