Dear St. Joseph Parish Family,
Happy Fathers' Day!! Today we celebrate our fathers who play an important role in our lives. A father's love should mirror the love of God the Father and thus we should first learn about God's love for us from our own father's love for us. In fact, the biggest predictor of whether a child practices his faith after childhood is whether or not his father practiced his. Fathers play a central role not only in the wellbeing of their children but their faith too.
Additionally, through their love for their wives fathers teach the dignity of women and how they should be loved and respected. Sons learn how to love and respect their future wives and daughters learn their own dignity through their father's love for their mother.
God calls all fathers to play a role in the salvation of their families through their sacrificial love, their Christ-like love for their families. Fathers are called to give themselves in love to those whom God has entrusted to their care. Therefore, fathers, love your wives, love your children, and love God. The more you love God, the more God will empower you through His grace to love your family, so practice your faith and be a father who forms families of love and joy. And make sure to go in prayer to our patron– St. Joseph– the father God chose to raise His own Son.
Thank you to all fathers for your self-giving love!
God Bless,
Fr. Boniface
