Script for 2020 Cardinal’s
Annual Stewardship Appeal VIDEO
Hi Everybody. Cardinal Timothy Dolan here.
Thanks. Thanks for spending a few minutes with me. As you’ve probably guessed, when you see me, today marks the start of the 2020 Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal. Can I speak with you for just a minute about the significance of the work that is accomplished each year through this Cardinal’s Appeal? The effects are seen in our parishes, schools, charities, and so many ministries throughout this vast archdiocese, and – if we’re doing it right – throughout the broader community as well.
See, it’s the task of every generation to take the Faith that we’ve received as a gift and share it with others. This is what Jesus called us to do: teach, serve, and sanctify, to proclaim the truth and then make disciples of all nations. That work is most effectively accomplished how? Through His Church - in our families, parishes, schools, charities, religious orders, seminaries, and the many services and apostolates responding to the needs of our communities. This is the work precisely that the Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal makes possible.
See, it is important to remember what it means to be Catholic and to remember this mission to which we have all been called. The Cardinal’s
Appeal is our faith at work, in action, attesting to who we are and the values we cherish. These works of mercy and service made possible by the Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal enable us, as a Church, to help those in need.
The work of the Appeal is perhaps most pronounced in those parishes serving communities in need, ensuring that they have needed resources to minister to the God’s people. From making sure that the lights are on, the buildings are warm in winter, structurally sound and safe, with a beautiful, secure church in which to gather – the Cardinal’s Appeal helps all that.
When you serve an area as expansive as this Archdiocese of New York – stretching from the shores of Staten Island, to Manhattan, and along the Hudson River, to the peaks of Ulster, Duchess, and Sullivan Counties, it takes a lot of resources to make our Pastoral, Administrative, and Charitable work a reality.
At the same time, we aren’t just another not-for-profit, offering social services. Yes, we do all of these things, and thanks to you and our exceptional priests, deacons, religious and lay staff, we do it well. What
sets us apart, though, is that we are sharing in the mission given to us by Jesus, the Son of God, our Lord and Savior, to teach, serve, and sanctify.
Rest assured, all of the money raised through the Appeal is used strictly for these ministries of the archdiocese, which include needy parishes, Catholic schools, Catholic Charities, the training of future priests, a safe comfortable home for retired priests, sisters, and many others. Through your participation in the Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal, you are helping to lay the groundwork for the future of our Church. Thanks! Thanks for what you’ve done. Can we count on you again this year?
Thank you and God bless you.
