Staff, volunteers, and students recently celebrated the first-ever virtual graduation at Centro. A series of in-person classes that began in January finished up online at the end of May.
Thanks to the great support, hard work, and patience of everyone involved, the monumental shift to an online platform allowed many students to advance their education despite the pandemic. Not only did they improve their English skills, prepare for their citizenship interviews, or develop their own small businesses, many also learned how to use new technology!
During the last ESL class, Alondra, an ESL student who originally started classes at DCIS in Montbello, said: "Thank you for your dedication, for being with us and giving us extra time when we needed it. We have learned so much during this strange time. Thank you to the staff of Centro San Juan Diego for supporting us in overcoming the challenges that life presented!"
Yadira, a Small Business graduate, also shared her appreciation:
"I want to truly thank you for all the knowledge you have shared with us. Thank you to all of my classmates. Sometimes it can feel like we aren't going to succeed, but God always provides! I want to thank Him for sending all these lovely people to me, I have really learned a lot from each one of you."
Centro is so proud of all the students who persevered despite the great changes to their personal, professional, and family lives. We are especially grateful to our teachers who, facing challenges themselves, also persisted. As Yadira said, "We are going to keep moving forward, and we are going to need to help each other to do it!
