Hey everyone, I'm working to make the best of our phase II time and take advantage of less foot traffic at our church to get some projects completed. It's been probably almost a decade since we've had our brick paved floor inside of the church restored and sealed. The Wiggins Company has restored and sealed our floors before so we are happy to welcome them back.
Since this is a labor intensive job with quite a bit of touching up to do, the entire church will be closed Monday through Friday June 29 - July 3. Masses scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 8:30 AM will be relocated to the Life Center which is directly across Milton Ave. Adoration will still be on Wednesday from 5:30 PM to 7 PM but in the Life Center.
This is where I can use a lot of help if you happen to be at any of our Masses this weekend (4 PM, 8 AM, 10:30 AM and especially 5 PM). With a little help from some parishioners, we were able to carefully roll and store our Persian rugs in a safe location. Below is where I can use help at each mass this weekend. I will post this list at church too. Masks will be available. So I humbly ask if I can have a little help in these areas: The goal is to have all of the brick flooring cleared by Sunday night.
after 4 PM Mass. Stacking and moving the 4 altar server chairs, the chairs and two kneelers near the tabernacle and place in the Ministry room. Moving all the plants in the gathering area that are on wheels and lose plants and trees to the west facing outside gallery.
after 8 AM Mass. Stacking several but not all of the padded chairs in the church and moving them neatly into the sacristy and decor rooms (these are long closet style rooms on the east and west sides of the church. Father will mark which chairs to put up. Carefully with assistance from others, move the statues of Our Blessed Mother, St. John the Baptist, the Sacred Heart of Jesus into the Cry Room with their wood stands. The statue of St. Therese of Lisieux is moderately heavy, use discretion or make it a team effort.
after 10:30 AM Mass. Check to see if statues were moved into the Cry Room by the 8 AM Mass crowd. Father will need help stacking more padded chairs and moving them into the side rooms. Any loose plants in the sanctuary area and potted plants on wheels/or sitting directly on the floor can go into the Ministry Room (Room near the restrooms)
after 5:00 PM Mass. I could use some crossfit muscle power to move some of the altar furnishings. The wood ambo, priest and deacon chairs, side tables, etc. These items will be moved into the cry room. The freestanding cross is also moveable but we will "cross' that bridge when we get to it. I'll need helpers at 5:45 PM to move the remainder of the padded chairs into the side rooms.
All done! Church will be re-opened the following Saturday morning. I'll be sure to give updates on our Facebook page for those interested in following the adventures of floor sealant (smiles).
Thanks in advance if you are able to help out! Fr. Schambough
