13th Sunday of Ordinary Time - June 24, 2020
Thank You Fr. Jim Oberle!!
Kings 4:8–11,14-16a Romans 6:3-4, 8-11 Matthew 10:37-42
What s blessing it is for disciples of Christ to receive the grace of endurance in suffering (trial). If we confront and embrace our crosses, hoist them, persevering in faith and prayer, we march toward healing and continued perseverance as we carry them.
When do you expect this will change? We hear Jesus telling us in the Gospel - if we consider ourselves disciples - to expect the crosses, the trials, the heart-break….no one is exempt. We are disciples! We can invest the gravest sorrow - as Mary did - as a foundation for our own prayer.
‘Yes, I am suffering, but so are many others with the same cross I’m carrying. This is also a prayer that shows our love for others. - Let’s include ‘these others’ and along with the souls in purgatory in all our prayer - and see if the cross doesn’t get lighter.

Parish News
You are going to really enjoy Msr. Berona, he has been ordained for over 40 years and he is very youthful and fit. Msr. has a fun sense of humor and he is a real ‘people person.’ He enjoys the people he serves, and he will really enjoy it here with us at St. Francis. Msr. Barona’s first weekend will be July 4th and 5th, maybe sooner.
It was decided with the Perpetual Care Committee meeting that the proposed maintenance project is not one that will lend itself to having the Boy Scouts help us with the work. Fear not, however, here at SFA we have no shortage of projects for these fine young men to help with. They will be helping us with planting of a ground cover for the area behind the church.
Masses Monday, Tuesday 9AM. Fr. Jim’s last Mass with us. This Mass will be offered for Fr. Jim and all our visiting priests for serving us so lovingly.
As of this writing, we may have Communion Services Wednesday and Friday. Adoration will follow. Benediction at 12 noon.
Msr. Jaime Barona will be off on Tuesdays.
The office is taking petitions for Masses both during the week and weekend Masses.
Food Bank liaison Louise Koschler is stepping down and will be replaced by Rex Garrison. Food Pantry is opening up again this week with social distancing. They request monetary donations rather than food as they can purchase more at a discount.
Thank you Louise for all you have done in this critical ministry. All the best in your new ministry - you are in our prayers. Thank you Rex Garrison for taking over for Louise and being our contact for all questions and procedures that work best with the Food Pantry.
I would like to offer a special thank you to Steve Smith for his great help in the garage. He worked many hours on the project and did much of the work on the removal of items - especially old paint and lost building material; no small feat! Now the next step is to plan the storage, a task Steve is also spearheading.
Confession will be available next Saturday from 3:30-4:15.
The office is open for regular hours. If you visit or have an appointment please wear your mask.
- This note will be updated when I hear from Msr. Barona.
