A Conversation on Racism
in our Country and Community:
Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at 7:00 pm
Parishioners of St. Peter, please join the Respect Life Committee as we host, what we know will be a powerful one hour program on racism. We are blessed to have a Father/Son presentation by two men who have experienced racism first hand and for their entire lives. William (Billy) Shell and, his son, Kendal.
William (Billy) Shell grew up attending St. Peter grade school, attended both Vianney and Kirkwood High School, coached for years at St. Peters, has officiated high school basketball for over 30 years, and has been inducted in the St. Louis Officials' Hall of Fame. Billy and his wife Jean have three outstanding sons and we would be hard-pressed to find a more caring and giving family. Yet, Billy has been pulled over, in the St. Louis region, more than 50 times (he stopped counting at 50!). He has experienced racism from childhood, but somehow finds a way to move forward and continually help others. You will want to hear his stories.
Kendal is an acorn that has not fallen far from the tree. Kendal attended St. Peter's PSR program, played sports at St. Peter, attended Webster Groves High School, and received a Division I basketball scholarship to the University of Minnesota. After graduating from the University of Minnesota, Kendal now lives in the block where George Floyd was killed. Kendal can bring a perspective to what is happening in our streets as he is living in the epicenter of our nation's unrest. Currently, Kendal is the COO of Hoops and Christ. A program designed to "...become world CHANGERS through the game of basketball."
Together, Billy and Kendal will be able to give us a generational view of racism in the United States. Please join us for this powerful evening on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at 7:00 pm by clicking on the above Zoom link. This will be recorded and available after the event.
