Parish Update -- July 1, 2020
Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph and Corpus Christi:
Here are a few things going on:
1. Office Closed -- In observance of Independence Day we are closing the office on Friday, July 3, 2020.
4. First Communion -- First Holy Communion will be held Wednesday, July 8 at 6 PM. Sadly, due to Covid-19 restrictions we are unable to open this Mass to everyone. We will still have Mass at 12:05 that day for everyone else.
5. First Saturday -- We will have First Saturday Mass at 10 AM on July 4 with confessions beforehand beginning at 9:30 AM.
6. Senior Citizens Mass -- The 12:05 Mass on Friday's is for senior citizens, for the foreseeable future, those 65 and older.
8. Sunday Vespers -- Join us on Sunday evenings after Mass for Evening Prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours. Either our seminarian, Carlisle, Deacon John, Deacon Jeff, or myself will lead Evening Prayer.
7. Tour de Priest -- Fr. Nick Adam, who is now the full-time Vocation Director for the Diocese of Jackson is traveling down the Natchez Trace from July 11 to July 17 promoting vocations and talking about his ministry. He will come to St. Joseph on Monday, July 12 for Vespers (No Vespers after Mass on July 11) and he will talk a little about his work and ways you can be a part and help.
8. RCIA -- RCIA will still be a part of our life here at St. Joseph. We are still in discussions about how that will work and what it will look like. We are also following the guidelines from the diocese as well. In the meantime, it would be good to begin praying about inviting someone to consider joining us at St. Joseph. If everyone invited one person every year,
9. Finance Council -- The Finance Council met last week via zoom. July 1 signals the start of the new year. I'd like to thank Jimmy Abraham and Tom Hannigan who have served faithfully on the Finance Council these past few years and have given of their time and wisdom generously in this unique way. I'd also like to welcome Matt Jones and Lou Fratesi who begin a three-year term on the Parish Finance Council today. Thank you both for agreeing to be a part of the team.
10. Campus Minister -- After careful thought and a lot of prayer, Meg Ferguson, our Director of Campus Ministry has decided to transition to part-time ministry here at St. Joseph after the birth of her first child. We have been abundantly blessed by her presence here in Starkville and St. Joseph and in her time as Director of Campus Ministry. She will be involved in Campus Ministry for the remainder of the year and we will take the next few months to shape her role going forward. In the meantime, we will begin a search for a new Campus Minister to begin to take on the role in a full-time capacity. Please keep us in prayer as we begin this process.
Peace,
Fr. Jason
