Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I will host a Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament on Sunday, July 5th, at 3:00 p.m. You can join me via live stream by going to the homepage of our diocesan website or my Facebook page (Tucson Bishop Edward Weisenburger) at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. The special intention of the Holy Hour is for the healing of our world from the Coronavirus. Be sure to have your rosary with you. May God bless and keep you.

Interesting historical fact: in the 1570s a particularly strong outbreak of Bubonic plague killed 30% of the population in large portions of Europe. As many civic leaders fled the cities for the countryside, St. Charles Borromeo, Cardinal-Archbishop of Milan, coordinated the public health response as well as the spiritual response. He ordered churches to be closed for public health reasons and called instead for the construction of outdoor altars where Mass occasionally could be celebrated more safely for the population. There are pillars with markers to this day in the city of Milan which identify where many of those outdoor altars stood during the time of the plague.
