From Deacon Michael HillFor the last 8 weeks, we have had our processes and procedures for attending and participating at Mass change – often rather quickly.I wanted to take a few moments to thank all who have made this go as smoothly as it has to this point. Between the capacity limits, having to wear the masks, providing phone numbers to help with contact tracing, and other changes, it has been confusing for all of us.All who have called in each week to let Mary Kay know which weekend mass they are attending has allowed us to have a good idea on how many are attending each mass, lets us process those who call in quickly, and these are helping us maintain the Wyandotte County mandated limits and social distancing requirements at these masses. For those who attend weekday masses, your cooperation in providing the masses you attend is also allowing us to plan properly and be able to invite in others from neighboring parishes who have not been able to attend at their home parish.Several people still do not call in to let us know. With the pandemic continuing to progress through the greater Kansas City area, knowing how many plan to attend each mass is a great benefit. It is possible we will need to monitor this closer as we get into fall. To help all, each week please:
- Call the parish office and let us know your mass preference and how many will be attending
- Please attend the mass you indicate
- Please try to arrive between 5 and 15 minutes before the start of mass. This will both allow you to be checked in before mass starts, but also if we are getting full, we can seat others and help maintain social distancing
- If you want to come to mass, but are afraid because of the larger numbers, look at coming in to a weekday mass. These are often less crowded and there are many available pews.
Thank you all at St. Peter and those who are visitors. I encourage you all to keep up your cooperation as we move through this next phase and continue to pray for a generally available and effective vaccine so we can return to live in 2019.
