18th Sunday of Ordinary Time
August 2, 2020
Isaiah 55:1-3. Romans 8:35, 37-39 Matthew14:13-21
Christ gives us all that we need to feed those he calls us to serve.
Today’s readings call us, like the disciples, to feed others - but only after having been nourished ourselves. We are invited to delight in rich fare, feasting on the love of God that is stronger than death. In responding to God’s call, we can trust that God will give us all that we need to carry out his commands.
The Lord speaks through the prophet Isaiah, exhorting his people to come to the water and be renewed by the everlasting covenant. St. Paul tells the Romans that nothing can separate them from the love of Christ. In Matthew’s Gospel passage today, after hearing of the death of John the Baptist, Jesus heals the sick and feeds five thousand abundantly.
Anointing of the sick this weekend!

Wednesday Mass will be at noon. We had great attendance at last week’s noon Mass. Adoration begins after Mass - 5:45 PM.
Spanish Mass at 6:00, and Holy Hour from after Mass - 7:00 PM
Let us know how this works for you.
On Sunday, the 8:30 Mass will be streamed.
Missalettes for Ordinary Time will be made available for a donation beginning Sunday August 2 at the main entrance There will be one per family.
We are asking for a donation of $5 so that it will have a value, and not be left behind. Put your name on it. The missalettes are yours to bring each week and bring home each week. All the music will be selected from the missalette.
We have an urgent need for help ushering at Masses, or a substitute list of those who can help in a pinch. Please contact Glen Hanrahan: 352-650-3117.
If You attend the 11:00 AM Mass and can help Shirley, thank you.
Review of safety procedures
Over the past few weeks our parish strategy for safety during the pandemic have been weakened. There has been no change in our safety procedures. So far, no one has gotten ill and this is no time to weaken our defense. Let’s review:
- All those who wish to attend Masses or Eucharistic Adoration must wear a mask while in the church.
- If you feel ill at all - please attend a streaming option at home. Our 8:30 Mass will be streamed from St. Francis.
- Our capacity is 103 in order to safely distance. Attendance is getting very close to capacity. We do NOT have the overflow option yet.
Here is what you can expect from your ministers: Bishops, Priests, Deacons, and eventually Eucharistic Ministers.
- Disinfecting hands before Mass.
- Disinfecting hands before Holy Communion.
- Ministers wear masks while distributing Communion.
- Minsters should disinfect hands after Communion.
Movement within the church.
- Follow ushers instructions.
- You may enter the church and be seated by either the main or side aisles.
- Safe distance from each other using the green dots for guidance.
- During Holy Communion: Msr. Barona will distribute from the front of the church to those seated in the front half of the church.
- The rear of the church - following guidance of our ushers - will receive from the deacon in the rear of the sanctuary.
- We highly recommend receiving Communion in the hands. However, if it is your wish to receive on the tongue, please exit the pew with everyone else, as you approach the minister please stand to the side. We will distribute on the tongue after we have distributed on the hands. The ushers will assist you.
Dismissal
- We exit from the side aisles. There are too many too close if we exit by the middle aisle.
- The front of the church who received Communion from Msr. Exit through the front side doors. Please do your best to space safely. A good way of doing this is to wait until the congregation thins out a bit.
- The rear of the church who received Communion from the deacon, exit by side aisles and out the rear doors.
- No congregating in the narthex.
- Please greet each other safely.
The entire community thanks you for your efforts to keep us all safe.
Note: The adoration schedule in the bulletin is incorrect.
Eucharistic Adoration is after the Communion service Monday - noon; Wednesday after Mass at noon - 5:45; and Friday after Mass - 12 noon.
After Spanish Mass at 6 PM Wednesday evening.
* Mark your calendars for the Pro-Life bake sale which will be held on the weekends of 8/8,9 and 8/15,16 under the porch after Masses these two weekends. This is our major fundraiser for our Pro-Life ministry.
Thank you in advance for your support.
