A WEEKEND OF PRAYER AND GRACE
This weekend brings us to the Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary, as well as a special feast in honor of our Blessed Mother Mary next Saturday.
Today, August 7, is the first Friday of August. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will start at 10:00 this morning and continue until 7:00 this evening. Spend some time in the Lord's presence in the quiet and beauty of our church. As we encounter the risen Christ in the sacrament of his love, he nourishes our minds and hearts with his presence. The Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) and Mass are at the usual times.
On Sunday, August 9, Bishop Michael Pfeifer, OMI, the bishop emeritus of San Angelo and a dear friend of St. Joseph's, will officiate at the 11:00am Mass and preach. We are honored to welcome him.
Next Saturday, August 15, is The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Mass obligation is waived this year, but we encourage you to celebrate Mass with us if you wish. The Vigil Mass of the feast is at 5:00pm Friday afternoon, and the Mass on Saturday is at 12:00noon. We rejoice with Mary who lived the grace of her vocation as wife, mother, disciple, and woman of prayer and who has entered into the fullness of glory in heaven.
We are looking to the new pastoral year and our Faith Formation, RCIA (catechumenate), and Sacramental Preparation Programs. Call Bea Bailey at the Parish Office (210.227.0126) to learn more. We have some creative options for all to enrich their faith and relationship with God.
Notes
St. Joseph's Church Downtown is open with the usual schedule of weekday and weekend Masses, sacraments, and ministry. Because of increased coronavirus cases locally, social distancing, hand-sanitizing, and the use of a face mask are observed during church services, in order to keep everyone safe and healthy.
Videos of Sunday Mass and other Masses from St. Joseph's are posted on YouTube at the St. Joseph Church Downtown Media page. We thank John Francis Strelchun and his parents for filming and editing these videos so beautifully. Some Masses are also live-streamed.
In a spirit of caring for each other in these difficult days, we encourage you to support efforts to feed our neighbors in need via Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of San Antonio and area food banks.
