If you have children in grades 6 through 12 and they would be interested in being a part of our Youth Group this year, please contact Kelsie Kent at
kkent@dioceseofspokane.org as soon as possible.
Note from Kelsie:
Aside from registration, there has been a lot of questions regarding exactly how Youth Group is going to look this upcoming semester. Those involved in youth ministry throughout the diocese have had several conversations circling around one particular point: How can we best serve our teens while still remaining safe in light of COVID19? Ultimately, we concluded that it is evident that by human nature we crave social interaction. The closure of churches, schools, sports, and other recreational activities has left in all of us, and especially our teens, a deep desire for comradely now more than ever.
Thus, rather than resuming exclusively online programming, our youth group will look a little different at St. Mary this year. We will be dividing the teens up into several small groups of around 5, each meeting a different day of the week. It is my hope that this will preserve the opportunity for cultivating authentic relationships, engage in challenging and stimulating conversation with both adults and peers, and provide leadership opportunities while still upholding a reverence to the health and safety of our community.
In order for our small groups to be successful, I ask that you carefully answer the question regarding when your child is available to meet. We are flexible- if they can meet once a week on a certain day, great! If they are busy and are only interested in large events or retreats, that works too! Once enough students have registered, I will begin to structure and schedule small groups.
Because we will be meeting multiple nights a week, we are also in dire need of adult volunteers! Consider giving the idea some thought and prayer.
I understand that there are quite a few changes happening regarding Youth Group this upcoming semester. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, I would be more than happy to discuss them with you!
Region XII has initiated a partnership to serve families who live with disabilities. The Archdiocese of Portland and Seattle have dedicated individuals working with people with disabilities and they have reached out inviting the Diocese throughout Region XII to participate in a monthly virtual gathering for these families.
We will be discussing the transitions that we are all experiencing this fall and the stress and anxiety that comes with them. The format will be similar to the other gatherings with a good amount of time for small group discussion!
If you are unable to connect for this Saturday’s event please know there is an event scheduled for October 3, 2020.
FIRE RESPONSE
Many people have inquired how they can directly donate to fire relief in those areas that have been impacted in the diocese. The Diocese can receive donations for this effort which will then be directed to agencies on the ground. At this time we do not have online giving set up for this special collection but if you would like to donate checks may be mailed to:

Please indicate "Fire Relief" in the memo line.
