We had another great week, and it sure went by quickly!
During math we've been working on place value the past few days, this is something we have had to really slow down on and focus. The students have been pretending they were ones and tens and they discovered they could make the number 100. They also grouped together to make a two digit number for the rest of the class to try and guess. Today we worked on problem solving while filling in a table looking for different ways to show a number with tens and ones. For example 32 can be made with 3 tens and 2 ones or it could be made with 2 tens and 12 ones. A good understanding of place value will be very important when we start adding and subtracting with regrouping. So far they are working very hard at it.
They also worked on understanding what a glossary and a dictionary are, and why we need them, and they practiced looking for things that are the same and different between their family and the family in the story we read this week.
We were all amazed at how quickly our caterpillars and our plants had changed and grown. I've included pictures below. Plans for next week will go up on JMC this weekend.
Next Friday, Sept. 18th is an early dismissal 12:55pm!
Let me know if you have any questions. Have a wonderful weekend!
