CREATOR OF HEAVEN AND EARTH
God is the one uncreated being. No one created Him. He has always existed. He has created all things that are. Man can create many things, but everything man has made (boats, buildings, airplanes, toys) is made out of something that already exists. Only God can create out of nothing. God created the entire world out of nothing, and He did it out of love.
God created us to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be with Him forever in the next. God created us out of love.
The story of creation is given to us in the Holy Bible, in the book of Genesis. We hear that God created the world from nothing, and created all living things. Finally, He created man and placed him as steward of creation. That means we are called to care for the creation and to use all created things wisely.

The creation of man is distinct in all of creation. God created man in His image and likeness.
- Ages 0-4: God created heaven and earth.
- Ages 5-7: God created us in His image and likeness.
- Ages 8-10: All that God created is GOOD. We are called to be stewards of Creation.
FIRST SACRAMENTS: Students should have an understanding both of the uniqueness of man in all of Creation, and the responsibility we have in being stewards of Creation.
We have two video options for you this week! I recommend watching both and seeing which captures Creation more vividly for your children (mine, who span toddler through 3rd grade, loved both, and I cried like a mother without sufficient coffee over both).
PRAY IT
- Pray the Glory Be.
- Pray the Our Father. Continue to present your petitions to God every night.
- Thank God for all the gifts He has given to you and to your family. Make a list!
- Continue to pray the Act of Faith.
PRACTICE IT
DISCUSS:
- What things has man made? What things has God made? What is the difference between these things? (Man creates out of materials that exist, but God creates out of nothing.)
- ASK: Why did God create? (Out of LOVE.)
PRACTICE:
- Read Genesis 1:1-2:3 together. Read John 1:3 together. (For little ones, read an account of creation in a book of Bible Stories, and be sure to make lots of animal sounds.)
- Read Psalm 148 and pray it together as a family.
- Sing the Canticle of the Sun (click here for a sing-along with kid-friendly pictures).
- Look out the window and identify all of the things created by God. You can even make a collage, using pictures from magazines or copied from books. Make one list or picture of things created by God; now make one list or picture of things created by man. (Older children can help younger children, and your littlest ones can have a grand time practicing with scissors and filling your house with teeny, tiny, unvacuumable scraps!)
- Choose a coloring page -- or choose more than one!
- Go on a nature walk and search for things that remind you of God’s love, power, and wisdom.
- Discuss how can we be God’s stewards of creation in our own everyday lives specifically at home? In our community?
- Make up a nature poem about one of your favorite things in God’s creation and read/recite it to someone.
- Write or draw what you have learned this week into your lesson book.
