A Holy Hour in Celebration of St. Vincent de Paul

In-person & Livestream
You are invited to honor St. Vincent de Paul (1581–1660), patron of the Diocese of Richmond, on Thursday, September 24 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. (The saint’s feast day is September 27.) The holy hour will include Eucharistic Exposition and Benediction, biblical readings, and sacred music from the French repertoire. This event will take place both in person and via the Cathedral's Facebook livestream: https://www.facebook.com/cathedralofthesacredheart/live
You will hear the rest of this majestic “Offertory” composed by François Couperin (appropriately nicknamed “Le Grand”), who was born into a dynasty of powerful French musicians employed by the court and the Church.

Octave of Service:
September 27–October 4
The bicentennial jubilee of the Diocese of Richmond includes an Octave of Service in honor of St. Vincent de Paul, the diocesan patron known as the Apostle of Charity and Father of the Poor. This week of service will begin on the saint's feast day (September 27). The Cathedral will carry out two projects for the Octave of Service:
(1) Step-by-Step with Haiti: Walking to raise funds for our twin parish in Carrisade, Haiti
(2) Cemetery Clean-Up: Clearing debris at historic Evergreen and East End Cemeteries

CCM Update
As VCU students start their sixth week of classes, Catholic Campus Ministry has been providing a variety of opportunities for prayer, fellowship and fun all while maintaining a safe environment for students during this unique semester back on campus. Many events this semester are being offered both in person and over Zoom including small groups, formation nights, fellowship opportunities, the Rosary, and service projects. We are excited to be rebooting Men's Group and Women's Group this coming week! The CCM House has been open throughout the week with safety and social distance measures in place. Please keep the students in your prayers as they navigate this unique semester here at VCU!

These presentations will be directed to persons seeking Church annulments. The presenters will explain the essential parts of the process and the basic information needed to present a case. Others seeking a better understanding of “annulments” are welcome to sign up, too. Presentations will be offered on the following dates and times:

Letters from Prison, Part One

Letters from Prison, Part One explores Philippians and Philemon in four sessions, explaining the reason each letter was written and addressing various themes such as joy, unity in Christ, reconciliation, and the close relationship between St. Paul and his communities.
Tuesdays Together
is coming together in-person!
We will meet on the Cathedral plaza at 10:00am on Tuesdays and walk to a shady spot in Monroe Park. Bring a blanket or large towel. Our parish offers an opportunity to come together in a small group to learn more about the Catholic faith. RCIA sessions focus on the faith and experience of the Catholic Church and prepares individuals to celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.
** There are separate sessions for children and youth.
You are welcome to participate in the RCIA process with your questions, your insights and your faith story in a welcoming setting.

RCIA Sponsors
Parish sponsors accompany those in the RCIA process of conversion and faith formation as companions on the journey. They support those in RCIA with prayer and their own witness to the Christian way of life. Sponsors attend the Tuesday night sessions. Serving as a sponsor fulfills the necessary ministry envisioned by the RCIA process, but it is also an incredibly enriching experience.

Every Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. we meet for morning prayer via Zoom. Some of us are more awake than others, but we come together in prayer to start the day with gratitude and hope in Christ. Lauds is about 20 minutes. Deacons Chris and Charles lead Lauds and invite volunteers to lead at different times. Click here to join the Zoom meeting.
