OK, so last week I was so proud of myself. I wrote the flock note and had it scheduled to be sent but obviously I forgot a step, so it is lost in outer space somewhere. Sorry!
For next week:
Math: Fifth graders have their first math test over Chapter one on Monday. Then we will begin chapter two/division. Please encourage your student to do all re-dos on homework, every point helps!
Lars: Next week we will read the story "Elisa's Diary". It is about a girl who moves to the U.S. from Puerto Rico, and the many adjustments she must make. Our target skill is theme.
In spelling the focus is on words with o, ou, and oi sounds. Please have your student practice the spelling list at home during the week.
In grammar. we will be working with plural and collective nouns. We will also learn about the suffixes ly and ful, making comparisons, and using negatives correctly.
Social Studies: We will be looking at elevation maps and learning about bodies of water in the United States.
Science: On Monday students should bring shredded newspaper and kitchen scraps such as banana peels, lettuce, egg shells...We will be making a red worm habitat. We will also be looking at kelp forest ecosystem cards and making food webs as we learn about the biosphere.
Art: Students are working on their fire posters.
On Wednesday mid term reports as well as fast testing scores will be in your Child's backpack.
This link to JMC is a helpful video. I hope you are all able to get on and view your students progress often.
This week in fifth grade we had an election. Jaxon Tinnes is our new Vice President!!! Six students wrote and gave great speeches, and made awesome posters. Our presidential vote will be next week. Stay tuned...
