Science News-
I'm so glad our class likes the science kit this term. I've seen mixed reactions over the years, but it's so fun to watch them look for changes in our plants and insects each day. The caterpillars have all made their chrysalises and we've noticed they sparkle with gold spots in the sunshine. We've begun our plant experiments to see what happens to the plant without light and the one without water, and Manny's mealworm has already transformed to the pupa stage.
Math News-
During math this week we finished the chapter but have not quite practiced enough to take the test, so we'll take the Chapter 1 test next Tuesday. I'll send home a review sheet on Monday. They need to know even and odd numbers, and have a very good understanding of tens and ones place value because chapter 2 will cover numbers to 1,000. They will need to understand the different names for two digit numbers, so 37 could be written as 3 tens 7 ones, 30 + 7, or thirty-seven.They should also be able to count by ones, fives and tens within one hundred. This would be easy to practice at home too.
Reading-
The spelling test for Lesson 3 went home today and I'll send the reading tests home Monday. Next week we'll read "Diary of a Spider." They will practice cause and effect relationships, context clues, nouns, and closed syllables.
Look for mid-term reports next week!
Please let me know if you have any questions. I hope everyone has a great weekend!
