In today's gospel (Mt 9: 9-13), we encounter the scene of Matthew sitting by his custom's post probably counting all the money that he "stole" that week as a tax collector. Jesus approaches him and says, "Follow me." (Mt 9:9)  Matthew immediately leaves his sinfulness behind and immediately follows Jesus.

                 What about us? Are we prepared to make that immediate conversion in our own lives this day and turn away from our old selfish wants, desires, self righteousness, and become that "new" person made in the image of Christ? Jesus also reminds us in today's scripture that He did not come to call the righteous, but sinners. He is speaking to you and me.

               Let us humble ourselves before God by recognizing that we are in much need of God's love and mercy. It is only when we remember how much God cares for us that we can reciprocate that care for another.
