Hello WBC Friends,
I want to provide you a brief update on our ministry. Unfortunately, we have some expected bad news to report:
- As most of you probably assume, we won't be able to hold our 2nd Annual Big Band Dance benefit on Oct. 24th due to Covid. Hopefully, we can reconvene in 2021 when things should get back to normal.
- It's also too risky to try to plan a trip to Quito in early June 2021. Again, we will reschedule once the world has gotten Covid under control.
Even with the above events canceled, you can still support our friends at the Working Boys Center:
- First, foremost, and always, please pray for everyone in Quito and at the WBC. They need our prayers every day.
- Follow them on facebook to keep up on all that the WBC is doing to continue to help our Family of Families in these challenging times. It's really quite amazing how the WBC staff has still been able to serve those in need at the center.
- Consider any monetary donation that you can afford by donating here or via Faith Direct.
- Place an order for St. Gabriel's branded masks manufactured at the WBC in Quito. We have had two parishioners place orders already and the masks were a huge hit. We made them available for free in the Church office and Narthex. I heard that we have handed them all out again. Who wants to place our third order? If you are interested, please email Tom Whalen, C4WF Board Member. It's so great when I look around during Mass and see all the masks being worn and just reflecting on the beautiful people at the center who actually made them.
- Subscribe to the WBC monthly email/newsletter by emailing communityoutreach@c4wf.org. In the email/newsletter, you'll hear from some of the wonderful kids being helped at the WBC like the sample message of Jose pictured below:
My name is José. This year, I'm going to be in 4th grade here at the Center and I'll be turning 9 years old. I always make good grades in my classes. I live with my older brother, Joel (10 years old), and my mom.
On a usual day, I would be with my friends in school at the Center. But now because of the Coronavirus, we're having school at home. It's okay to study at home, but I'm excited to see my friends again when the Center opens again!
My mom doesn't have a job right now. Mom says she is very glad we have the Center. They help us get enough food and they are very nice to my family. Thank you for helping the Center because the Center does a lot of good things for me and my family!
Hope to see you soon,
José
May God bless you and your family and keep them safe and healthy.
And remember that God will overcome and conquer even these times!
Peace be with you,
Mark
