"Score for the Big Bang" is a translation of the sound waves that coursed through the infant universe into a musical score for choir and pipe organ. Created by artist Ander Mikalson, in collaboration with University of Virginia Professor of Astronomy Dr. Mark Whittle and Pulitzer-Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw. Performed on October 12, 2018 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Richmond, VA as part of Sound Arts Richmond, curated by Vaughn Garland. Performed by members of Handel Choir of Baltimore, Third Practice, Richmond Symphony Chorus and the VCU Commonwealth Singers, with organist Daniel Sañez, and conducted by Erin Freeman. Choral direction by Brian Bartoldus and Erin Freeman. Earlier versions of the score were developed with composer James Elliott Shelton. Dedicated in loving memory of Rebecca Tyree.
