It is hard to believe we are into our sixth week of school already! Everyone is in the groove and things are running smoothly in fifth grade. We elected President Chris Overstreet and Vice President Jaxon Tinnes. Congratulations to them! Looking forward to hearing their ideas this year.
Math: We will finish chapter 2/division and take the test on Thursday. Our next chapter is decimals. Please encourage your student to do all math fixing on homework.
LARS: Next week our story is a good one..."Old Yeller". The focus will be understanding characters, visualize, direct and indirect objects, idioms, and vowel + r sounds.
Science: Hopefully our red worms are busy working away in the deep dark closet. We will be checking on them next week. We continue to study ecosystems and decomposition. Students will take an I-check/test on Friday as we finish investigation 1.
Social Studies: The focus next week will be "Where People Live and Work", and Longitude and Latitude.
Art: Students designed some wonderful fire posters! Good Luck!
Next week the GRA (Global Read Aloud) begins!!!! We will be reading Indian No More by Charlene Willing McManis. Fifth grade really enjoyed this last year. It is cool to think that other students all over the world are reading with us. We will be trying to communicate with others, but it is different this year with virtual learning in many places. I have already connected with a teacher who makes some great kahoot games for us to participate in. This will fit in great with the Native American study we will begin soon.
