My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, peace and blessings! 

From the beginning of salvation history, God has revealed Himself to us and has called us to relationship. Although we’ve rejected Him time and again, God has never given up on us, and the relationship He’s called us to has progressively become one where He draws closer to us and shares more of His own divine life. This revelation of God’s divine nature and His invitation to communion reached its peak in the incarnation. Jesus reveals Himself as God and Lord. This was a scandal to his listeners, and it continues to be a scandal to people throughout human history. That’s why people try to take Jesus’ words and either make of Him a purely divine figure who has no real ability to draw near to us or a purely human teacher who can share some wisdom but who has no power to save and thus has no power to demand deeper commitment from us than paying lip service to His teaching. However, we owe it to Jesus and to ourselves to take Him at His word. He reveals Himself as God and Lord, and the irony is that while such a great revelation could justly give Him the freedom to ask great feats from us all He asks for is that we be willing to open the door of our heart to Him. He does the rest. That’s the lesson woven throughout this weekend’s readings, particularly in the seemingly odd incident of the expulsion of the wedding guest. We might think that such a gesture is unfair in light of the fact that it was a last-minute invitation, but the reality is that the guest was given everything that was necessary, including a wedding garment, in order to participate in the feast. Thus, the fact that the guest shows up unprepared shows how little regard he had for the invitation and gifts he had been given. The same can often be said of us, in our baptism God has extended to us an invitation to the heavenly banquet, He’s given us our wedding garment, and He’s given us the gifts that we need to bring. All that is left to us is to show up and celebrate. However, many of us don’t often stop to consider how clean and well prepared we’re keeping our wedding garment, or how much care we’re taking to cultivate the gifts that God has entrusted to us. This week let’s take stock. Let us thank God for the fact that we’re already on the list of those that are invited, and let us ask Him to show us what our gifts are and to give us the grace to use them more wisely and well for God’s glory and the service of our brothers and sisters – Fr. Meus queridos irmãos e irmãs em Cristo, paz e bem! 

Desde o início da história da salvação, Deus se revelou e nos chamou a união com ele. Embora o tinhamos rejeitado muitas vezes, Deus nunca desistiu de nós e o relacionamento para o qual Ele nos chamou tornou-se progressivamente um em que Ele se aproxima de nós e compartilha mais de Sua própria vida divina. Esta revelação da natureza divina de Deus e Seu convite à comunhão atingiu seu auge na encarnação. Jesus se revela como Deus e Senhor. Isso foi um escândalo para seus ouvintes e continua a ser um escândalo para as pessoas ao longo da história humana. É por isso que as pessoas tentam tomar as palavras de Jesus e fazer Dele uma figura puramente divina que não tem capacidade real de se aproximar de nós ou um mestre puramente humano que pode compartilhar alguma sabedoria, mas que não tem poder para salvar e, portanto, não tem poder para exigir de nós um comprometimento mais profundo do que aceitar Seu ensino duma maneira superficial. No entanto, devemos a Jesus e a nós mesmos acreditar em Sua palavra. Ele se revela como Deus e Senhor, e a ironia é que embora uma revelação tão grande pudesse dar a Ele a liberdade de pedir grandes feitos de nós, tudo o que Ele pede é que estejamos dispostos a abrir a porta do nosso coração para ele. Ele faz o resto. Essa é a lição tecida ao longo das leituras deste fim de semana, particularmente no incidente estranho da expulsão do convidado da festa de casamento. Poderíamos pensar que tal gesto é injusto por se tratar de um convite de última hora, mas a realidade é que o convidado recebeu tudo o que era necessário, inclusive uma veste nupcial, para participar da festa. Assim, o fato de o convidado se apresentar despreparado mostra o quão pouco ele se importava com o convite e os presentes que recebera. O mesmo pode ser dito muitas vezes de nós, em nosso batismo, Deus estendeu a nós um convite para o banquete celestial, Ele nos deu nossas vestes nupciais e até nos deu os presentes que precisamos trazer. O que falta é nós aparecer e festejar. No entanto, muitos de nós não costumamos parar para considerar o quão limpos e bem preparados estamos mantendo nossas vestes nupciais, ou quanto cuidado estamos tomando para cultivar os dons que Deus nos confiou. Esta semana, vamos fazer um balanço. Agradeçamos a Deus por já estarmos na lista dos convidados, e peçamos a Ele que nos mostre quais são os nossos dons e nos dê a graça de usá-los com mais sabedoria e bem para a glória de Deus e o serviço de nossos irmãos e irmãs - Pe.
