Dear parish families and friends,
In today's scripture passage (Lk 11: 37-41), Jesus is the invited guest at one of the Pharisee's homes. At dinner time the Pharisee points out that Jesus did not perform the ritual cleansing of His hands. Jesus tells the Pharisee that he was more concerned about ritualistic laws and his appearance than the purity of his heart.
How about us? Do we sometimes do things to be seen by others? God is asking us to cleanse our hearts of any pride, jealousy, and selfishness. He wants our hearts to to be filled with kindness, selflessness, and reverence for the Lord.
Once we allow this conversion to take place in our hearts then with God's grace we can be the people that he wants us to be. It is only when we allow this change to take place that we can be at peace with ourselves and others. Let that person on the outside reflect the real person on the inside.
Peace.......Fr. Pat
