Dear Parishioners,
In the first reading, the Prophet Isaiah reminds us that it is God that guides the hand of all who do good. Why? Because he is the Lord and there is no other.
The Gospel reminds us to give to Ceasar the things that are Ceaser and to God the things that are God's. It is easy for us to think about what is due to our Government.
What are the things of God? Everything!
What does God need? Nothing!
What are we to give to God? Honour, Glory, Praise, Thanksgiving, and most importantly Love in response to the love he has shown us. This response to God cannot remain just between us and God. Faith always has a communal dimension. That is what St. Paul is reminding us about in the second reading When he says we are to give God our "works of faith and labour of love and steadfastness in hope."
What are these Works of Faith? These include the Spiritual Works of Mercy: teaching, advising, consoling, comforting, forgiving; and the Corporal Works of Mercy: feeding the hungry, providing clothing, visiting the sick, sheltering the homeless, etc.
The reading today reminds us that as we engage our heads to learn about God's goodness and our hearts burn within us, our faith is incomplete until we engage our hands in the good works that God has created us to do!
Thank you to everyone who has stepped forward to offer physical, spiritual and financial support to our parish. As a community, we are truly blessed.
Let us continue to pray for each other and with each other as we build up the Kingdom of God.
I keep you and your families in my prayers.
May God bless you.
