Good afternoon! We have been very blessed with the small amount of COVID related events/decisions our school has experienced so far this year. While things have been very calm at St. Nicholas School, it is clearly not that way in all of our surrounding communities, or the state, as the positive rates keep climbing.
I am writing today just as a reminder that virtual learning is still a possibility at any time this year. Unlike last year, virtual learning will be 5-days a week; there are no waiver days. Additionally, the state of Indiana has suggested that a "typical" virtual day should consist of about 5 hours of learning. This is a combination of digital and non-digital activities including whole group, small group and independent lessons. Additionally, many classes will have a designated Google Meeting time throughout the week to ensure personal interaction where students can ask questions, as well as see and hear their teacher.
In the next few days, I will send out a list of Virtual Learning expectations, as a reminder, that will include how attendance will work, when assignments are due, how/when you should contact teachers and more.
We are in a unique situation where our public school is in Dearborn County and our physical location is in Ripley County. If something would happen and one county suggests one guideline and the other issues a different guideline, we will take everything into consideration and make the decision that is best for the students of our school.
I will do my best to keep everyone informed as the school year progresses and guidelines change. Now was just a good time to send out a little reminder due to the increasing numbers in the state at this time. I continue praying for the health and safety of each of you. Thank you all for working with us in taking the necessary precautions to keep our students and staff safe.
Peace and Blessings,
Mrs. Kirschner
