During Wednesday’s homily, Msgr. asked a student to do a trust fall--to fall back into the arms of someone without looking backward. Msgr. likened this trust fall to the trust fall we all must do when we’re scared or struggling: fall backward into Jesus’ arms, for Jesus will always catch us. Our faith leads us to trust in God, which brings us peace. Peace is knowing that Jesus is always with us to catch us--even when we can’t see Him. What a gift faith is!
Let God Speak First...
Msgr. also stressed the Second Part of Mass: the Liturgy of the Word. After the Introductory Rites, we sit down to listen to God’s Word. We allow God to speak first, usually through the Old Testament (and on Sundays additionally the New Testament), and we listen to what God is saying to us. Then we stand for the Gospel--Jesus’ own words--and listen to what Jesus is saying to us in the Gospel. We end the Liturgy of the Word with our own prayers to God, our Prayers of the Faithful or petitions.
World Priest Day
What a blessing our three priests are: Msgr. Jack, Msgr. Greg, and Fr. Paul! Many thanks to our priests who dedicate their lives in service to our Church and to us. Each week at our all-school mass a different class takes a vocation chalice to their classrooms so that they might pray for vocations to the priesthood and the religious life. We know that our world and our Church is in need of priests. Let’s all remember to pray for our priests and for all those young men considering the vocation to the priesthood.
A Prayer for Vocations
God, thank you for loving me.
In Baptism you called me by name
to live as your child.
Help all your people to know their call in life.
For your greater glory, raise up generous leaders
to serve as priests, deacons, sisters, and brothers.
Amen.
