GOSPEL - Jn 16:5-11
Jesus said to his disciples: “Now I am going to the one who sent me, and not one of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ But because I told you this, grief has filled your hearts. But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes he will convict the world in regard to sin and righteousness and condemnation: sin, because they do not believe in me; righteousness, because I am going to the Father
and you will no longer see me; condemnation, because the ruler of this world has been condemned.”
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled tothy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen. Mother Teresa’s“Express Novena” (9 Memorares in a Row) can be prayed in times of urgent need.

STUDYAnd when he comes he will convict the world in regard to
sin and
righteousness and
condemnation:
sin, because they do not believe in me;The light shines in the darkness, but those in the dark remained blind. Jesus came to His own but His own excepted Him not. All of us our sinners and are susceptible to turning Christ away in our life. Even the baptized cannot presume to be "all accepting" of Christ. Some would reject the Incarnation, that Jesus is the Eternal Word made flesh, this is a first rejection of Christ. Some also would reject the Resurrection, that Jesus is truly God and raised Himself from the dead, this is a second rejection of Christ. We need the Holy Spirit to remain open and docile to Jesus Christ, to hear His voice, to obey His teaching, to answer His call.
righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see me;We need the Holy Spirit in order to be like Christ, to conform to Him, to be just or righteous. “Justification is the change from the condition in which a person is born as a child of the first Adam into a state of grace and adoption among the children of God through the Second Adam, Jesus Christ our Savior” [1] This change cannot take place unless the Son goes to the Father and the Father and Son send the Holy Spirit.
condemnation, because the ruler of this world has been condemned.Jesus Christ through His Passion, Death and Resurrection has final victory over Satan, sin and the grave.
The strife is o'er, the battle done, the victory of life is won; the song of triumph has begun. If we however are going to be, and stay on the winning team, if we are going to live the victory of life, we receive the Lord, the giver of Life - the Holy Spirit.
