Dear Parishioners,
Part of the ministry of the priests of the Cathedral Basilica is to provide Pastoral Care at Barnes Hospital and Children’s Hospital whenever he Catholic priest, who works at the hospital, happens to be unavailable. This past Tuesday, I received a call to visit with a family at Children’s Hospital because their 13 year old son was in the process of dying after a long illness. Moments like this are absolutely heart breaking.
In talking with the mother, she shared with me that a few days ago, when her son was alert, they were able to give him a small piece of a Host. She said as soon as he received it he had the biggest smile on his face. Moments like that remind me of how precious the gift of the Holy Eucharist is to us. My heart breaks for the family, but I was deeply edified by their strong faith, which I know will help them get through such a tragedy.
I hope that you had the opportunity to visit our All Saints Chapel to view the prayer area set up for our All Souls Novena. Our response to this new program was tremendous and it is quite moving to read the prayer intentions and view the loved ones who we are remembering in prayer.
I would like to share with you a few words from our Holy Father Pope Francis that are from a recent homily: “The Church is not the Church only for good people. Do we want to describe who belongs to the Church, to this feast? The sinners. All of us sinners are invited. At this point there is a community that has diverse gifts: one has the gift of prophecy, another of ministry, one teaching . . . . We all have qualities and strengths. But each of us brings to the feast a common gift.
Each of us is called to participate fully in the feast. Christian existence cannot be understood without this participation. ‘I go to the feast, but I don’t go beyond the antechamber, because I want to be only with the three or four people that I am familiar with . . . .’ You can’t do this in the Church! You either participate fully or you remain outside. You can’t pick and choose: the Church is for everyone, beginning with those I’ve already mentioned, the most marginalized. It is everyone’s Church!”
His words remind all of us that the Church is not made up of perfect people, but is made of imperfect people. Oftentimes we might forget this and think that we have to be perfect to be a part of the church. Or we think that others must be perfect as well to be with us at the Eucharistic Celebration. He reminds us all to be careful in our judgment of others and that the Church is for everyone, beginning with those who are most marginalized.

This Weekend's Pulpit Announcements
The Book of The Dead has been placed in the All Souls Chapel, located in the rear of the church, and will remain there throughout the month of November. All are invited to inscribe the names of family, friends, and loved ones who have died and require our prayer.
In celebration of St. Vincent de Paul Sunday, Vincentians are stationed in the Cathedral vestibule after all Masses to collect donations of personal hygiene items as well as cleaning supplies.
The Catholic Charities Christmas at the Cathedral Concert will be held this coming Friday, November 13. Please refer to your bulletins for details.
On Saturday, December 5, we will welcome Archbishop Rozanski to the Cathedral for his first Advent Day of Recollection. The Archbishop will speak at 1:00 pm, and opportunities for quiet meditation, prayer, and the sacrament of reconciliation will follow. Please refer to your bulletins for details.

Wearing of Masks
Just a quick reminder that masks are to be worn at all times while in the Cathedral Basilica (except for the reception of Holy Communion). It is important that the mask covers both your nose and your mouth to prevent the spread of a virus.
