O God, by whose gift Saint Elizabeth of Hungary
recognized and revered Christ in the poor,
grant, though her intercession,

Saint Elizabeth of Hungary was born in 1207 and died in 1231. In her short 24 years she married, was widowed, and bore three children. Her husband, Louis IV was the noble ruler of the Kingdom of Thuringia and upon his death, and even during his life, Elizabeth used his wealth to care for the poor, even establishing a hospital where she herself nursed the sick. Saint Elizabeth of Hungary is patron saint of hospitals, nurses, the homeless, and Catholic charities.
