THE SACREDNESS
OF THE ORDINARY
Today’s Scripture readings remind us of the goodness of the ordinary, the daily, the great gift and the extraordinary beauty of ordinary life. While a woman’s work may go unnoticed and unappreciated by many, the Book of Proverbs warmly applauds all that a wise wife and mother does to provide for her husband and her family. And she has a heart for the poor, sharing with those in need. Her husband saves his heart for her alone.
The psalm gives similar attention to a God-fearing husband and father whose loving care causes his wife and children to thrive. In the light of the transitory nature of our lives, we are reminded that what we do in ordinary life, as we glorify God by our choices and our actions, care for each other, and build God’s kingdom by lives of holiness and goodness, we are doing something truly important.
Everything of this earth is passing, given for a moment, but it leads to an eternity of joy and peace in God’s kingdom.
