Dear Brothers and Sisters,
This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. Our faith and theology sometimes has some pretty complex ideas: We believe in one God who is three persons. However, amidst the complexities of the relationships of the three persons of the Trinity there is a simple truth: that God has a name – and the name is love.
Pope Francis says: “The light of Easter and Pentecost have renewed in us each year the joy and wonder of faith that recognizes that God is not something vague, abstract, but has a name: ‘God is love.” Through our baptism we enter into this community of love. The idea of us entering into the life of the Trinity is expressed in Andrei Rublev’s icon of the Trinity. In the icon the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are seen sitting at a table. What is central to the icon is that there is a space at the table, and that space is for you and me. The call to enter into the life of the Trinity is a call to enter into the relationship of love, a call to giving way and trusting God with our past, our present and our future.
Let’s give thanks this week for the beauty of our faith and for the love that we have in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
