Home for the Holidays
Advent will begin this Sunday, November 29! This is a special time of year, as we prepare for and await the celebration of the Nativity of Christ and also the Second Coming. The Catechism explains, "When the Church celebrates the liturgy of Advent each year, she makes present this ancient expectancy of the Messiah, for by sharing in the long preparation for the Savior's first coming, the faithful renew their ardent desire for His second coming." (CCC, 524)
In this season we will have special programming to stay connected as a community and grow in faith! This will include offerings described below, as well as a series of videos from the Cornell Catholic staff that we are calling 'Home for the Holidays'. The ministry team will virtually invite you into our homes and share some traditions, cook with you, and more. Our Home for the Holidays series kicks off a bit early, with a video from Fr. Dan on how to make an Advent Wreath! Check out the video below to learn how to make your own wreath, or simply enjoy listening to Fr. Dan tell stories, explain the season of Advent, and share information about Advent wreaths.
Holiday Give Away!
This year we will be raffling off copies of "To Thank and Bless: Prayers at Meals." Click here to enter your name in the raffle. We will select the winners in the upcoming weeks. You won't want to pass this up! This will be a great book to have on hand to use in prayer before meals. Get your family and friends to join you in the prayers!
Advent Evening Prayer
During the season of Advent, starting November 29, the community will continue to gather on Sundays at 8:30 p.m. for Evening Prayer (Vespers). We will also celebrate Evening Prayer on the seven weekdays before Christmas, on December 17 to 23 at 8:30 p.m. Fr. Dan will preach a homily at all of these services. Each service is approximately 20 minutes long. Bring your friends and family! Lectors are needed for each service. There is the opportunity for up to four lectors for each liturgy. Spiritual Secret Santa
Fill out this form to take part in Cornell Catholic's Spiritual Secret Santa! You will be randomly matched with another member of our community who will pray for you by name during this Advent season. You will know who you are praying for, but you will not know who is praying for you. This will be revealed before Christmas! If you have any questions, please reach out to Jenna (jes544).
Virtual Caroling
Do Advent and Christmas make you want to spread holiday cheer by singing loud for all to hear? If your answer is, "yes!" or even, "I guess," sign up here to participate in CCC's and ICCC's first ever virtual caroling extravaganza! Our festive virtual creations will be premiered at our Choral Gaudete Sunday Night Prayer on December 13th — a virtual event you won't want to miss! Instrumentalists as well as singers welcome!
Jesse Tree
Cornell Catholic will be hosting a Jesse Tree activity this Advent season. We will be coloring Jesse Tree ornaments and discussing Jesus' lineage during our Virtual Redlin Room on Thursdays, starting on December 2. Please check next week's Flocknote for more information!

Faculty Faith Sharing Interview Series Next Tuesday
On December 1st at 7 pm we will launch a series of faith sharing interviews with Cornell faculty and staff. We hope that the community will be inspired to grow in faith as we hear from people who live out their faith and do incredible work right here at Cornell. Our first interview will be with Dr. Jonathan Lunine on 12/1 at 7 pm. Dr. Lunine is the chair of the Department of Astronomy. He has done incredible work in his field, including work with NASA. He will answer questions about his faith journey, his work and his faith, and how he continues to practice and live out the Catholic faith. The interview will be guided by some student leaders and there will be a Q&A session afterwards. Don't miss this incredible opportunity! Thomistic Institute Book Club
How can God's existence be proven? What can unaided human reason discover about God? The Thomistic Institute at Cornell invites you to join the third part of it's metaphysics book club.
