Advent Wreath
By custom, the Advent wreath is blessed and lit on the First Sunday of Advent, November 28–29, both in the church and in the home. The wreath functions as a calendar for the season, as the Church waits—in the sense of preparing and looking forward—to the first coming of Christ at Christmas, and to his Second Coming (Parousia) at the end of time.
According to the Book of Blessings, “The candles represent the four weeks of Advent and the number of candles lighted each week corresponds to the number of the current week of Advent. The rose candle is lighted on the Third Sunday of Advent, also known as Gaudete [“rejoice”] Sunday” (no. 1511).

Morning Prayer (Lauds)
Join the Wednesday morning prayer group at 7:30 a.m. over Zoom. It is a friendly, welcoming group led by Deacons Charles Williams and Chris Malone. Bring your prayer intentions and join in any Wednesday morning (especially during Advent) over Zoom.
All-Parish Read
Join us on the first three Wednesdays in Advent at 7:00 p.m. (December 2, 9 & 16) for our All-Parish Read: Prayer, Our Deepest Longing by Ronald Rolheiser. The group will be led by Deacon Mark Matte and will meet over Zoom.

Walk to Mt. Calvary
Thank you to all the youth that came to the walk to Mt. Calvary. It was a great day for a walk and we all learned about the cemetery and prayed together.
Advent Activities
Thank you to all that came to our Advent Activities on the plaza. It was a beautiful day and a special time together to prepare for Advent.

Advent Giving Tree
The Advent Giving Tree is underway! This is an opportunity to donate necessary items to several Richmond organizations. Rather than hanging paper ornaments on trees this year, we will be using electronic wishlists where you can view and sign up to donate needed items. The lists can be accessed through the attached flyer. Items can be deposited at the Giving Tree sign at the Cathedral entrance, or brought to the Cathedral office from 9:00am to 4:30pm, provided you call ahead (804-359-5651). Please be sure to indicate which organization your gift is for with a marker or tag. Some organizations are requesting checks or gift cards; these can be placed in the collection baskets at the Cathedral entrance or mailed to the Cathedral. The final day to drop off gifts is Sunday, December 20.
