Father Raul Perez of Cross Catholic Outreach will be visiting our parish this weekend (Dec 4th - 6th) to speak at all the Masses on behalf of the poor in developing countries.
Cross Catholic Outreach was founded to create a meaningful link between parishes in America and the priests and nuns working in the Church overseas in the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Central and South America.
Father Perez comes to Cross Catholic from the Dominican Republic. Between 1960 and 1973, he ministered to the poor as a Christian Brother until an assignment to help care for six orphans inspired him to take a break from the religious life and raise the children himself.
However, Father Perez did not forget his call. Once his children grew up, he decided to become a priest and was ordained on February 8, 1986 in the Diocese of Barahona, Dominican Republic.
In 1991, with his Bishop’s permission, he moved to the United States to work with migrant workers in Georgia. He was the first Hispanic priest to serve in the Diocese of Savannah.
